January 1st, 2014 - How to make French Press coffee

Ok, so I know that this is not an intensive skill to learn. But for someone who is rather simple when it comes to taste in coffee (no cream and sugar for me, thank you), using a French Press is something very exotic. I have only just recently mastered the coffee maker in our apartment. And really, if I'm going for a hot caffeinated beverage, I'm going the Jean-Luc Picard route. (For the uninformed, that means tea...hot...Earl Grey).
I needed some help with today's task, so I enlisted my friend David to stop on by...

Aside from turning me French (not Italian, as David wrongly hypothisized), the coffee was also incredibly strong. I don't think that this is a skill that I will be using on a daily basis, but I could definitely see it come in handy on lazy Sunday's where a hefty drink is required. As this describes pretty much 100% of my Sundays, maybe it will come into practice quite a bit...

Other things that I learned/looked up today:

1) How to spell the word "souvenir" (I blew off the dust on my dictionary for that)
2) The meaning behind the foods in a traditional New Years Dinner (I asked the future in-laws for the answer to this).  They said that the black-eyed peas represent good health, and collared greens stand for folding money.
3) Figured out if there was a dash between the "Jean" and the "Luc" (Thanks Star Trek novel, now I don't feel so nerdy for purchasing you!)
